We are delighted to admit pupils at any point in the year, but this is determined by what space we have in each year group and therefore we would encourage you to check with us directly.

Yes, we accept short stay pupils for a minimum of one term where space allows and occasionally less depending on circumstances. We are also happy to take pupils on short term contracts whose parents are in Oxford on a short term academic/research project with Oxford University.

Our admissions process includes the following:

Pupils would need to sit assessments in their chosen A Level subject(s) or related subjects to provide a reference point to ensure the pupils ability to capture the subject matter. Please note that certain subjects will require attainment of certain grades to be able to continue studies for A Level programme. Details can be provided on request.

We find that our most popular entry points for pupils are in Years 7, 9, 10 and 12 although we are always delighted to discuss other year group entry.

The boarding houses and the school are all Wi-Fi enabled, and for those pupils devices and computers in school. The boarders can use their phones at appropriate times in the evening and weekends and should they not have their own phone, they may use boarding house mobile phones held by the House Parent.

There is an induction on the first evening to ensure that all boarders are supported and that they know their way around the site.

Every pupil has a form tutor who cares for both the emotion and intellectual development and provides a framework of pastoral support. In addition, pupils in Year 8 and above are allocated a progress tutor who monitors their academic progress. Our Houseparents are the first point of contact in the boarding houses, but they are very well supported by their assistants and the medical team alongside the academic staff who liaise closely.

Wychwood Sixth has a considerable amount of comparative freedom in which they are encouraged to be independent both in and out of school. They have special privileges and are not required to wear school uniform but are, of course, expected to dress appropriately as if they are attending a professional place of work.

In September, there will be a new Wychwood Sixth Hub opening which will offer contemporary spaces for learning. There will be classrooms, study spaces for individuals and groups, a common room with soft seating and a kitchen/café area. The new Wychwood Sixth Hub will create an environment for our pupils to be inspired and excel whilst ensuring the smooth transition between school and university.

Wychwood Sixth pupils have an important role within the school and assume responsibility whether in the pastoral care of younger pupils, through activities and sport or through the School Council as Councillors. The Council is an elected body of pupils, and staff, who work together in a unique shared governance of the school, to voice opinions in an atmosphere of discussion, debate and understanding.

Further information about Wychwood Sixth can be found here.

Success within school requires a sound partnership between parents and staff and this relies on good communication. School reports are certainly part of this, but we encourage parents to develop good links with their child’s tutor and Houseparent so that successes, as well as concerns, are shared quickly. We welcome contact by e-mail and telephone to establish and maintain a valuable connection between the school and home.

Our Medical Administrator co-ordinates all medical requirements for all day pupils and all boarders and we have a School Counsellor, Independent Person and our staff are always on hand to be a support to all our pupils. Boarders are supported by the local GP surgery which offers comprehensive medical care and appointments which can be made at any point should a pupil require this. If pupils are taken ill during the night, they are treated initially by the House Staff who are all First Aid trained and, if necessary, further professional medical care is sought.
