Wychwood Sixth

The secret to Wychwood Sixth is very simple.

We give individual attention to individuals who are imperceptibly becoming the best version of themselves as they learn to find their space and place in the community, as practice for life beyond school and in the world. We know every single pupil, and they know us. Through innovative, collaborative and creative experiences we help them to develop and unlock their potential through a truly holistic education.

Wychwood Sixth pupils have a freedom not afforded lower down the school, through which they are encouraged to be independent both in and out of school, although they are supported by a dedicated team of progress tutors and form tutors. Careful monitoring and management of their academic progress means they may seek permission to leave school if they do not have timetabled lessons to further their studies at a local museum or library, or simply to meet friends. They have a later start to their day once a week as a special privilege and they are not required to wear uniform but dress appropriately as if they are attending a professional place of work.

The freedom and ‘sense of joy’ is outstanding.

Wychwood Sixth Hub
Wychwood has recently opened a new Sixth Hub which offers contemporary spaces for learning. There are classrooms, study spaces for individuals and groups, a common room with soft seating and a kitchen/café area. The new Wychwood Sixth Hub creates an environment for our pupils to be inspired and excel whilst ensuring the smooth transition between school and university.

Responsibilities
Wychwood Sixth pupils have an important role within the school and assume responsibility to help with the pastoral care of younger pupils through activities, sport and through the School Council. Council is an elected body of pupils and staff, who work together in a unique shared governance of the school, to voice opinions in an atmosphere of discussion, debate and understanding.

The soft skill set and life skills learned from a Wychwood Sixth experience will take pupils well into the next stage of their lives and beyond.
